A year later

Well hello strangers....it's been more than a year since I've been on and, tbh, I actually abandoned this blog for a blog on wordpress because the mobile app was so much more convenient. Eventually though, I abandoned that one as well because things go way too hectic with my life. Now that I'm back I have so much more done and I'm not nearly as busy as before so I'm hoping that I can get back into the swing of stitching quite a bit and posting here.

Where am I now? I've graduated college and am currently playing the waiting game before I look for a job. I've got a 5 year old who hasn't started school yet but once she starts my plan is to start working. I'm waiting until she starts school because I've had her to myself for 5 years now and I don't see why I should put her in daycare so I can start working earlier when I can wait a few more months. I'm trying to get back into working out, I've been quite lazy on that aspect of my life, and stitching so that I can finish up one of my pieces I'm working on and start on my Sleeping Beauty piece. My plan is to get all that done before I start working, we'll see how that goes though.

As a heads up, I'm going to be flooding this blog with pictures of my life for the past little while so that I can have everyone updated as to what it is that I've been doing and some of the stitchings that I've completed.

Whip those stitches everyone!!

Bi-weekly updates

I'm going to try and do updates on both Tuesdays and Fridays so that I can see how much I've gotten done. Sometimes there may not be much done but other times there may be quite a bit done, it all depends on the schedule life decides to put me on.  :-)

Current project (WIP)

Little Kisses

This is how the completed project should turn out

My progress as of 4/28/12

I'm hoping to have it completed and framed soon. Then I'll add a start date for my next project.

Tips and tricks

I find that I cross stitch by strands instead of in any type of pattern. I know this typically isn't how cross stitching is done but it works out beautifully for me because I can see how the picture is coming together. I'll start with one color and work with it until I run out of the set I started with (the set being the strands that are wrapped together, usually 6 to a set) then I'll start on another one that is around the first set so that I'm actually working from the inside out.

If the pattern calls for 2 strands I have found that it is easier to take one strand and double it up instead of taking two and having to cut it so it's not too long. If it's doubled up it's half the size of the strand and works perfectly without getting knotted.

*If you're new to cross stitching it will be to your benefit to get a hoop or frame of some type to hold your fabric in. It's much easier to do this way and cuts down on frustration quite a bit!!

Introduction

Cross-stitching is something that is very relaxing and gives you beautiful finished projects. Right now I'm working on one for my daughter because she has a love of horses and I can't wait to complete it so I can hang it in her room. I'm not sure how long I've been working on it because I've been off and on for a while with it and I'm trying to hurry and get it completed before everything starts getting busy again. I'll keep up with when I start projects and when I complete them so that I can see my progress. I'll take weekly shots of what I'm working on so my progress can be shown.

(Of course there might be some off topic ramblings every now and then but for the most part cross-stitching is going to be the basis of this blog.)
